Bacon Academy finishes a stellar season

2011 has been a great season for Bacon Academy girls’ basketball. The team remained undefeated until their final game of the season – a semifinal match against number 4-seeded Hillhouse/New Haven on March 11 at Moloney High School. Hillhouse’s strategy was to effectively control senior Katie Mahoney, who was recently named the Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year. With Hillhouse’s Quanisha Solomon dogging her every move, Mahoney managed 13 points and four rebounds. But it wasn’t enough, and Bacon’s season ended with a final score of 58-34.
The Bacon Bobcats finish up 2011 with an ECC tournament championship to their credit and a 25-1 record. Katie Mahoney broke the school’s season scoring record on March 3, surpassing Jacquelyn Gaudette’s 2000 mark of 1,716 points.
