It's the half-way point in the season, and East Hartford High School boys’ tennis coach Thaddeus Scott couldn't be happier with the team’s performance. Most of his team members are seniors, and most of them have spent three or more years on the team.

With a record of 8-1, the team is already well-positioned for the championships, said Scott. “The score doesn't always tell the story - that's true of many teams,” he said. “I think we're even better that would show so far.''

Scott praised also his team’s captains. “They all work hard, and they help to motivate their teammates,” the coach said. “Austin LeBlanc is very strong on the court. Stephen Foran is also very strong on the court, and he works with almost anyone you put him with, which is a really good trait to have. Alex Freeman is a very hard worker, which shows on the court. He is the number-two player - I think he is still going after that number-one spot.”

Fifth season with the team.

“We have nine seniors on the team this year, and they are absolutely a great bunch of guys,” Scott said. “We're competitive in matches and I am very happy with the way things are going right now.''

Sports Spotlight: Players to Watch-

Alex Freeman - Senior, Captain, No. 2 singles player: “I've been on the team for three years. Things are going pretty good right now - eight wins and one loss - which is even better than last year. I think this is the best the team has ever done since I've been on, and I think the reason is we have a lot of seniors,” Freeman said.

Austin LeBlanc - Senior, Captain, No. 1 singles player: “I've been on the team for four years. Most of the team are seniors, which means there is just a lot of experience, and we are winning our matches,” LeBlanc said. “For myself, my strokes have been better and I have better game play.''

Stephen Foran - Senior, Captain, No. 1 doubles player: “It’s been a good year, and that's because we have lots more people with more time on the courts,” Foran said. “I think nine out of 10 of us on the team this year are seniors.”
