The Putnam High School Clippers golf team won easily against Parish Hill on May 12. With only two players able to make the match, Parish Hill had to forfeit the game.
“It's unfortunate that we played against a team that only had two players,” coach Jim Bartolomei said. “Basically, we had to finish the round. There wasn't any competition.”
It did give a young Putnam team and a young Parish Hill team a chance to play a round of golf, however. With a rundown of Connecticut National's hazards and home rules, Bartolomei sent the golfers off.
Andrew Bardier and Alec Foucault shared medalist honors, each shooting 38. Spencer Salvas shot a 39.
This is the Clippers' first season in the
Putnam High School Golf Coach Jim Bartolomei
Seasons with the team: 8
Thoughts on the season: “For the last three or four years we've had really good teams,” the coach said. “But last year I lost four seniors. With only two returning players, I have five players who are brand new to the team. We're doing all right. We could surprise people.”
Andrew Bardier - Senior, Number 1 Golfer:
Senior Andrew Bardier has played four years for Putnam, steadily improving with each year. He is one of only two returning golfers from 2010. He comes from good golf stock: his father is one of the top golfers in eastern Connecticut.
