In 2010, the Windsor High School girls’ track team ended a perfect season as CCC champions with a 7-0 record, cementing their position at the top by capturing the Class L championship. How far will they go in 2011? Eleven-year coach Ron Wilson has his eyes on the state championships.
“My goal for the team this year is for each girl to perform better than they did last,” Wilson said. Led by seniors Brianna Allen, Chalsea Clark, Ashley Graves, Kaelyn Moore and Nastasya Rodriques, the Lady Warriors’ current record stands at 6-0.
Wilson and assistant coach Celeste Over, a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic team, are preparing for significant competition at the CCC North Championships, the Class L Championships on June 2, and finally the State Open Championships.
At the Hartford Public Invitational at Willow Brook Park, sophomore Sydnee Over took home first place in the 400, achieving a personal best time of 54.77. “My mom and dad both run. It’s a very big part of our family,” she said.
Wilson noted areas in which his team has excelled thus far. “I see our greatest strengths this season as relays, middle distance and jumps,” he said. “One area we need to improve on is our throwing.”
Currently 14 of the 35 team members have qualified for CCC level competition: Brianna Allen, Samantha Blake, Chalsea Clark, Ashley Graves, Jocelyn Harris, Courtney Kearse, Kaelyn Moore, Medinah Nabadduka, Sydnee Over, Nastasya Rodriques, Keniece Walker, Sarah Whalen, Janae Wilson and Melissa Wolliston will represent the Lady Warriors.

Janae Wilson – Junior: An all-around athlete, Wilson competes in the 4X1, long, high and triple jumps. “I’ve always enjoyed running. You have to have a real love of it, and jumps, if you want to do well,” she said. In her third year with the team, she is also a member of both the volleyball and indoor track teams.
