Bringing four years of coaching experience with him from Bellingham, Mass., first year Windsor High School junior varsity lacrosse coach Joe Lancour and his team of 14 have a current record of 2-8.
Led by starters Robby Zawasky, Andrew Tasillo, Tyler Little, Schaylor Clarke, Anthony Mauri, Jack Selig, Colin Walsh, Marcus Hudson, Brian Eckman and Mark Markawitz, the Warriors are making their mark - proving they have what it takes to feed Windsor’s varsity lacrosse legacy.
“Our best matchup has been Cathedral [of Springfield, Mass.],” Lancour said. “We were around the same skill level and are both very competitive.” Competition has been stiff for the Warriors this season. “We beat Cathedral by one goal in our first game,” Lancour continued. “We also had a big comeback against Conard [of West Hartford] that fell just short in the last seconds, but they are a very good team each and every year.”
Pleased with the school’s support for lacrosse, Lancour expressed his appreciation toward Windsor’s athletic program. “As a new coach, I cannot say how the organization of Windsor sports has changed, but Athletic Director Steve Risser is also new to the school and has done an excellent job in the organization and funding for the spring season,” he said.
“Our team’s strength is the ability to work hard and compete for the entire game no matter the competition,” the coach said. He credited the particular skills of players Robby Zawasky, Colin Walsh and defenseman Marcus Hudson.
Looking forward to the 2012 season, Lancour has high expectations for the level of talent his players will contribute to the varsity squad. “With a senior-dominated varsity team, I hope we can prepare the underclassmen for the larger roles expected of them in the future,” he said.
