Barbara and George Vaughn have been married for 50 years. In those years, the Vaughns have owned more than 20 Cadillacs. On July 8, they purchased their 23rd Cadillac – a brand new 2011 Escalade, from Scranton Motors in Vernon. They were presented with the keys by Scranton Motors Executive Meghan Scranton.
“This is a very special Escalade,” said Scranton. “This is actually our platinum Escalade, which is the highest-end Escalade you can get.”
Barbara Vaughn, who is a realtor with Coldwell Banker in Longmeadow, Mass., said that she and her husband trade in their Cadillacs every two to three years. This is their sixth Escalade. “We feel the Cadillac is the best,” she said. “Years back, people would wait in line for our cars. We sold them to some interesting people through the years. One owned a funeral home and another was an older gent who waited for our cars each and every time. In the most recent times, [we've] been trading them in. All the dealers really are very happy with the cars that we trade in.”
The Vaughns are first-time customers at Scranton Motors. “There is no more dealership in Massachusetts that's close by,” said Barbara Vaughn. “We could have gone to Auburn, near Worcester, or here [Scranton], and so we chose here.” When the Vaughns saw the Escalade, they knew they wanted it.
“Didn't even get in it,” said Barbara Vaughn.
“We haven't even driven it yet,” said George Vaughn. “They're the best.”
On July 8, for the very first time, Barbara Vaughn sat behind the wheel of her new vehicle, started it, and good-naturedly said, “the radio's going!”
In September, the couple will celebrate their 51st anniversary.
