The Stafford Thrift Shop marks its 40th year of service to the community with a move to its new location at 2 River Road, next to the town hall. It is currently sharing space with Mimi’s Book Attic in the historic Cooley Mill Building, which is also home to a collection of arts studios.
The shop had been located at 44 Main St. for the last eight years.
The thrift shop is staffed by a group more than 20 volunteers who handle the clothing and household items that are donated by members of the community. All the money earned at the shop, after rent and utilities are paid, goes to assist those in need in the community.
Through referrals from the area clergy and Stafford Family Services, the shop provides holiday baskets for needy individuals and families, delivers food to the Friendship kitchen and shelters and supports a Permanent Scholarship Fund.
The shop’s hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday. Arrangements for donations can be made by calling 860-684-4420 or 860-684-6121. Donations may also be dropped off at the store during business hours, or otherwise left at the door.
The Stafford Thrift Shop is a non-profit organization, and the appropriate tax forms are available for anyone requesting them.
