Second-year Stafford High School boys’ soccer coach Robert Schadt is setting solid goals for the 2011 Bulldogs. “Our goal this year is to play more skillful soccer, be more competitive, and win more games,” he said.
Led by seniors Tucker Carlson, Kyle Pallanck, Joseph Rossi, Nicholas Dent and Dan Lemire, Stafford is off to a 1-1 start with a loss to Enfield (0-2) and win over SMSA (1-0).
Captains Carlson, Pallanck and Rossi are this year’s team leaders. “I hope that the tri-captains will show leadership both on and off the field, in terms of their effort and abilities,” the coach said. “Some of the younger players will need to elevate their games and take on larger roles.”
Carlson, a returning center midfielder, commented on his hopes for 2011. “It’s all about working hard to hit our goals and keeping our focus on achieving a winning record,” he said.
At stopper, Pallanck reviewed his approach to game day strategy. “We need to do the small things right and make little changes to achieve the big wins,” he said.
Four-year forward Rossi believes the Bulldogs are a force to be reckoned with this season. “I’m looking forward to being part of a competitive league,” he said.
Assisted by David Gorski, Schadt is building character both on and off the field, stressing the important role academics plays in the overall development of his players. “I can only speak about last year, but academics have been a strong emphasis within the boys’ soccer program, as well as the entire SHS athletic department,” he said.
Stafford soccer fans are loyal and numerous. “The booster club is a strong supporter,” the coach added. “They provide a great deal of assistance to all the teams, and in return, we help at events like the golf tournament.”
