The Friends of the Babcock Library held a wine- and spirit-tasting fundraiser on the grounds of Eastern Connecticut State University’s Church Farm Center for the Arts and Sciences in Ashford on Sept. 10.
“What a beautiful day for it!” exclaimed Friends President Jan McCulloch. “With all the crazy weather we’ve had around here lately, we were worried. We can’t thank Eastern enough for allowing us to use their facilities and providing us with necessary staffing.”
Guests sampled the wine and spirits provided by a town retailer and a local distiller.
The afternoon also featured an art show and sale featuring the works of local artists including Charles McCaughtry, Joe Peters, Patty Shannon, and the late Sean McCarthy. The artwork was displayed in the cow barn on the property.
There was also a display and sale of what the Friends dubbed “Babcock Baubles,” jewelry and decorations crafted from bits and pieces of the nearly 100-year-old copper roof of the library which was recently replaced.
The Friends of the Babcock Library raise money throughout the year to augment the library’s budget and provide for programs and services that would not otherwise be available.
“The big expenditure this year was a new server for the library,” said Friends member Sue Harkness.
The Friends welcome any and all who wish to join them. For more information, call 860-487-4420.
