The South Windsor High School boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams had their last meet of the season at home on Oct. 11 versus Glastonbury High School. Both the SWHS and the Glastonbury boys’ teams were undefeated going into the race, although the Bobcats had beaten the Tomahawks at the Wickham Invitational on Oct. 8.
“The motivation of beating Glastonbury at the Wickham Invitational carries over to today,” said senior co-captain Kevin Morse. The win at Wickham does not count for the standings in the state conference.
“We have a very good top eight guys,” said senior co-captain Joey Bonazelli, all of whom typically place within a minute of each other. Both Morse and Bonazelli are in the top eight runners for the Bobcats.
Despite a quick start, the boys’ team did not succeed in taking the meet. The Bobcats will continue to the next level of competition in the LL division.
For the girls’ team, the season has been plagued with injuries. “It’s not one of our best seasons,” explained senior tri-captain Saerey Chau. In fact, all three captains were injured on the day of the final meet. Nonetheless, Chau said, “Running makes you feel good about yourself. It makes you feel powerful.”
