The Town of Manchester will begin curbside vacuum leaf collection in November. Each street will be scheduled for only one collection. In order to be collected, the leaves must be raked to the edge of the property along the street. If the curbside is blocked by cars, the collection cannot be made. The collection schedule is located online at http://publicworks.townofmanchester.org/leafroutes/default.cfm. Weather and other unforeseen circumstances may change the schedule without notification.
Residents may also set out paper leaf bags for curbside collection on the normal refuse and recycle collection day. Curbside collection will continue through the end of the second week in January. The paper leaf bags may be purchased at the Customer Service Center at Town Hall, located at 41 Center St.; at the landfill, located at 1 Landfill Way off Olcott Street; or at the Senior Center, located at 549 East Middle Turnpike. The cost for 30-gallon paper bags is $.30 each; the cost for 45-gallon paper bags is $.45 each. Paper leaf bags purchased from area retail stores are also acceptable. Leaves in barrels, plastic bags or cardboard boxes will not be collected, and rubbish is not to be mixed in with the leaves.
Loose leaves or leaves in the paper leaf bags may be dropped off at the landfill composting area year-round during normal landfill hours, Monday through Saturday, from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. From Oct. 15 to Dec. 15, loose or bagged leaves may also be deposed after landfill hours at the parking lot at 263 Olcott St. Plastic bags or brush is not accepted.
Manchester recycles more than 38,500 cubic yards of leaves annually. Additional information is available at http://www.townofmanchester.org or by calling the Customer Service Center at 860-647-5235.
