Earlier this season, Bacon Academy girls’ soccer coach Christine Taylor expressed confidence that her team would continue to perform at the highest level, despite moving up to the ECC Large division.  That confidence was rewarded on Friday, Nov. 4, as the sixth-seeded Bobcats took home the ECC tournament title, defeating fifth-seeded Waterford High School, 1 -0, in the final, held at New London High School.

Despite dominating much of the game – Bacon outshot Waterford 11 to 4 – the winning goal didn’t come until the final minute of regulation, as Jessica Ostroski headed in the winner in a scramble off a corner kick from Kristen McAdams. With the win, Bacon finishes the season with 11 victories to go along with three losses and three ties – two of which came against Waterford, which finished the season with a 12-6-2 record.

After the game, the ECC honored the boys’ and girls’ soccer all-stars and sportsmanship winners for the 2011 season. Bacon Academy awardees are: Girls’ first team all-stars were Kristen McAdams, Ellen Schroeder and Jenny Stec, with A.J. Weinberger receiving honorable mention. Boys’ first team all-stars were Chad Ferro and Kyle Sirois, with Danny Goldberg and Malcolm McClellan receiving honorable mention. Alyssa Hemm and Paul Esteve received sportsmanship awards.
