Students and staff at Colchester's William J. Johnston Middle School honored their local veterans on Monday, Nov. 7, with an early Veterans Day ceremony on the field behind the school.

Principal Christopher Bennet spoke to the students about the importance of honoring veterans, and the school band and the select chorus performed.

The American Legion Department of Connecticut also honored the school with a certificate of appreciation for its more than 10 years of inviting veterans to the school for the ceremony.
