Some folks adore a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh on a snowy, frigid day. “There are some people who just love to snuggle up under a blanket in the cold,” said Sandy Staebner.

But if the turnout at this year’s Blue Slope Farm Advent activity was any indication, there are plenty of folks who enjoy a warmer ride, as well.

The weekend of Nov. 26 was sunny and balmy, and the Staebner family had trouble keeping up with the demand for their horse-drawn wagon rides. “We actually had to turn people away,” said Staebner. In its sixth year, the event offers a wagon (or sleigh) ride, hot cider or cocoa, popcorn and a Christmas-themed craft activity.

Working on crafts after their ride were Tess, 2, and Mia, 4, sisters from Gales Ferry who attended the event with their mom. The girls are big fans of horses, crafts and singing, according to their mom, so the event was the perfect activity for them. The ride? “It was fun,” said Mia with a big grin.

The Advent activity is the last event scheduled for Blue Slope for the season. The farm will resume activities in June, with the resurgence of its popular summer square dances. The farm celebrates 20 years as a working museum in 2012, so expect lots of activity in the upcoming year. Check www.blueslope.com for upcoming events.
