Things were looking good for the Valley Regional girls at the start of their basketball game at East Hampton High School last Monday, Jan. 16, as they jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead. But just as quickly, their shooting went cold, and the first quarter ended with East Hampton up 8-6. From there, the Bellringers never looked back, going on to win the contest 43-35.

After leading by as much as 16 points in the second half, things got a little bit tense for the East Hampton girls in the last quarter, as Valley Regional went to the full-court press full-time, leading to a number of turnovers that brought them within six points, with just less than two minutes to play. The press also resulted in a number of fouls, though, and the Bellringers were able to hold on through some timely free-throw shooting, particularly from senior Ashley Chasse, who sunk four straight in the waning moments of the game. With the victory, the

Bellringer girls move to 4-8 on the season, while Valley regional drops to 2-9 with the loss. In the preceding junior varsity game, the East Hampton girls won a nail-biter, 34-33, to advance to 3-7 on the season.
