The East Hartford Police Officers Association has established a donation fund for Officer Todd Lentocha, who was critically injured on Jan. 4, when a truck struck his police cruiser.
“Todd's work ethic and professionalism as an East Hartford police officer makes him a true hero to the community,” said Michael T. Weglarz, president of the East Hartford Police Officers Association, in his statement announcing the fund. “Todd is also a dedicated husband and father of three.”
Lentocha, 41, is a five-year veteran of the department. The donation fund is intended to support the Lentocha family while the officer is recovering from his injuries. Lentocha received serious head injury as a result of the crash, which occurred on Route 2 while the officer was on-duty. The truck, which was traveling eastbound, entered the right shoulder lane of the highway and slammed into Lentocha's police car. The accident was investigated by the state police, and the driver has not been charged.
Lt. Curt Stoldt, a spokesman for the East Hartford Police Department, said the department has felt devastated by the crash, and many officers have been making regular trips to the hospital to support the officer and his family.
“I would personally like to thank everyone who has shown support for Todd and his family during this difficult time,” Weglarz added. “Let us all pray for a full and speedy recovery.”
Donations to the fund can be sent to the East Hartford Federal Credit Union, 92 Pitkin St., East Hartford, CT 06108. For more information on the fund, call 860-291-0345.
