After jumping out to a quick 9-0 lead barely two minutes into their game at Valley Regional High School, it looked like it was going to be an easy night for the Nathan Hale-Ray Little Noises girls’ basketball team. But a 3-pointer from Lauren Budney got things started for the Warriors, who then went on a 14-4 point run to end the first quarter on top, 14-13.
In a game that featured tough defense, as well as a number of missed opportunities by both teams, the Noises gained an edge later in the game that they didn’t lose, going home with a 46-32 victory. With the victory, Nathan Hale-Ray raised its record to 5-9 for the season, while Valley Regional fell to 2-10.
In an exciting and tightly-fought junior varsity game, Valley Regional held on for a 24-23 victory. After trailing throughout the second half, Hale-Ray tied the game with 17 seconds on a shot from in close by sophomore Jen Staples. But the Noises got into foul trouble, and Valley’s Emily McKosky sunk a free throw with 1.4 seconds remaining, giving the Warriors the victory.
