The Bacon Academy Bobcats girls’ basketball team claimed its fourth straight victory last Friday, Jan. 27, with a lopsided victory over the Falcons from Groton’s Fitch High School, 72-31.
The Bobcats jumped out to a commanding 22-8 lead after the first quarter, thanks in large part to the efforts of junior Taylor McLaughlin, who scored 14 of her team-high 22 points in the first, mostly from the inside, where McLaughlin also brought down 13 rebounds.
After claiming the early lead, the Bobcats never looked back, never allowing the Fitch team more than 10 points in any quarter, putting the game firmly away with several three-pointers in the final quarter.
With the victory, the Bobcats move to 13-2 overall and 6-1 in the ECC Large Division, keeping them tied with the East Lyme Vikings atop the division, pending a match-up of the two teams on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Bacon Academy. With the loss, Fitch drops to 7-8 overall and 1-6 in division play. The Bacon Academy junior varsity team was also victorious, 43-26, in a game played prior to the varsity match.
