Coach Nick Boorman is a happy man. His Wildcats have made it to the state championships. Playing against Fermi High School on Wednesday, Feb. 22, the Wildcats had already secured their place to play in the states. For Fermi however, this was a do or die game.

Both teams were on the game, very aggressive and full of energy. It was, however, a bittersweet loss for the Wildcats, as Fermi scored the final blow in overtime.

The Wildcats' first goal was scored by senior Ryan Kertanis, with an assist by Tom Padrevita, also a senior. After the first half, the score was tied 1:1. In the second half, sophomore Max Marson scored, with an assist by junior Ed Motherway. The third goal was a beauty by Motherway, with no assistance.

At the end of the second half, things were looking great for the Wildcats, with a score of 3-1. Fermi, relentless and determined to make it to the states, pumped up the game a notch, and the skating was fast and furious. Scoring for the Wildcats in the third period was Padrevita again, with an assist by junior Drew Ash. But Fermi tied the game up by the end of the third half, drivinge the game into overtime, ultimately winning the game and the opportunity to compete at the state level.
