“That was a gut-wrenching loss, the worst loss of my career,” said Chris Pugliese, the coach of the Salem Middle School girls’ basketball team.  His team went undefeated throughout the season, until the championship game.  “Nothing was going right in the final,” said Pugliese, and his team ended up losing, 27–25 to Sterling Middle School, bringing a great season to a somewhat bittersweet end.

On the boys' side, Roland Trailor ended his tenure as coach by taking a mostly inexperienced team and leading them to a 7–6 record, leading Trailor to say that it was “at least for me, the best season that I’ve ever had.”
