A strong performance by NFA defense kept top Windham scorers Kendall Marqez and Julian Sanchez in check during an ECC quarterfinal matchup on Feb. 25. Marquez (averaging 24.4 points per game) and Sanchez (averaging 15.9) were held to just seven points apiece, in a game that ended in a 56-36 win for NFA.  Aaron Martineau was the high scorer for Windham, with eight points.

Fifth-seeded Windham (16-6) trailed fourth-seeded NFA (13-9) at halftime by a score of 30-17.Windham came out of the locker room with tremendous energy after the break, scoring the first six points of the second half to cut the spread to 30-23. But NFA quickly regrouped, re-established their defensive edge, and went on an offensive tear. With five minutes to go in the game, the Windham Whippets found themselves facing a 50-23 deficit. A last-minute offensive scoring effort by Sanchez wasn’t enough to make a difference.

NFA will face New London in the ECC matchup at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 29.

Windham will compete again in the Division M Tournament. See www.casciac.org for tournament schedules.
