The Bacon Academy Bobcats girls’ basketball team moved one step closer to a trip to the class L state championship game as they defeated the Brookfield Bobcats 59–42 in their quarterfinal game, held last Thursday, March 8, at Bacon Academy. Led once again by junior forward Taylor McLaughlin, who scored a game-high 26 points, the third seeded Bacon Academy team gave up the game's first basket five seconds after the game's opening, but finished the first quarter up by two, 13 – 11, and never again trailed, as the Bacon Academy defense forced several second quarter turnovers, holding the Brookfield team to 9 points in the quarter.

The Brookfield Bobcats entered the tournament as the 22nd seed, advancing to the quarterfinals with victories over 11th seed East Lyme and 6th seed Watertown High Schools.  Sophomore guard Corrine Bogle led Brookfield with 12 points.

With the victory, the Bacon Academy Bobcats advance to the Class L semifinals, in which they will face the number 2 seed Pomperaug High School from Southbury.  Both teams enter the semifinal match, which was played on March 12, at Bulkeley High School in Hartford, with identical 20 – 2 records.
