Herbs on the window

Spring is an ideal time to plant some herbs in a simple pot or box on a sunny kitchen windowsill. Most herbs can be grown successfully with at least five or six hours of sunshine a day. Water them just enough to keep the soil damp, and fertilize monthly.
Grow the herbs you enjoy the most, since they are the ones that will be within arm’s reach as you cook. The best choices are herbs that are dense and compact, like oregano, mint and thyme. Parsley and basil also do quite well indoors. These will be the freshest herbs you will taste all year, so enjoy every last leaf.
