Jewett City Little League went all-out for its 60th anniversary opening day ceremony on April 15. Gathering at Town Hall, hundreds of young people representing t-ball, softball and baseball teams chatted excitedly in their uniforms and caps. They were joined by the Griswold Middle School Marching Band, town officials, members of the Shriners Motor Patrol and hundreds of supportive parents.
The parade stepped off shortly before noon under sunny skies. Participants marched through town to the Little League field. There, the middle school chorus sang the national anthem, and players honored several past presidents of the league. The ceremony was followed by the traditional first game of the season, a match-up between the 11-12 Yankees and Red Sox.
