According to Bob Kortmann, one of the assistant coaches for the Coventry High School outdoor track and field team, the boys’ team is heavy on seniors and strong in jumps. Qualifying to compete during the post-season as of May 19 were: Levi Peterson (high jump, triple jump), Mike Brown (high jump, triple jump, long jump), Tommy Myers (100 meter, 200 meter, disc, shot, javelin), Chris Gonzalez (discus, triple jump), Taylor Vann (long jump, triple jump), Jake Downham (1600 meter, 3200 meter), Alex Amarante (100 meter) and Dan Manzi (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, pole vault).

For the Coventry girls’ team, qualifiers as of May 19 were: Meg Oliphant (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Hannah Goodale (1600 meter, 3200 meter, 800 meter), Raquel Pouliot (1600 meter, 800 meter), Jessica Beausoleil (high jump), Gretta Ingraham (high jump, pole vault), Shelley Jones (long jump, pole vault, triple jump) and Erika Trudon (long jump, triple jump). With a lot of strong athletes but not much depth, “I expect we’ll fare well at the states,” said Kortmann.

The head coach for the Coventry track and field team is Bill Vanderrest. Assisting in addition to Kortmann are Riana Pryor, Matt Styles and Matt Maynes.
