Spring sports wrapped up at East Granby High School on a high note.

In his seventh season with the Crusaders, baseball coach Bob Bromage led his players to an overall 12-8 record and a trip to the Class S state tournament. In their senior season, teammates Brian Watterlond and Gregory Poll led East Granby (#15) to an opening round victory over Old Saybrook (#18), 4-3, before falling to Derby (#2), 2-1, in the second.

Ending at 9-8, softball took a trip to the Class S tournament as the number-22 seed. Led by coach Carl Ferrara, team captain Anna Glassman and fellow seniors Taylor Seelen, Michelle Raabe, Haylee Kulig and Jolene Bascom helped East Granby defeat SMSA (#11), 9-6, in the first round, but came up short in the second against Morgan (#6) losing 6-5 in eight innings.

Golf coach Steve Matson led his squad to a 19th-place finish at the 2012 Division IV Tournament on June 5, at Fairview Farms in Harwinton, with a score of 372. Seniors Rebecca Eisch, Michael Han, Brian Hayes, Jared Lowenstein, Michael Parenteau and Cameron Sayles put up consistent numbers for East Granby throughout the season.

After losing eight of its 10 starters in 2011, coach Tim Doherty and the girls’ tennis team defied the odds, advancing on to tournament competition with a final regular season win over Windsor Locks, 4-3. On May 29, EGHS fell in the qualifying round to Stonington, 7-0. First singles seed, senior Brianna Raymes, served as the 2012 team captain.

Boys’ outdoor track finished 32nd in the 2012 Class S tournament on May 30 at Willowbrook Park in New Britain. Throughout the regular season, coach David Mendrala relied on seniors Chance Butler, Matt Plante, Sean Rosenberger and Sam Worcester for team leadership.

Girls’ outdoor track coach Sarah Carney began 2012 with a youthful squad, and ended with a strong foundation for 2013. Led by seniors Caroline Eastman and Caroline Roohr, the girls’ team ended strong, with three members placing at the Class S tournament.
