Suffield High School spring sports wrap-up

Suffield High School baseball ended the regular season at 10-10, securing a trip to the Class S tournament. The #23 seed, the Wildcats’ went head to head with Weston (#10), and were eliminated, 6-3. Coach Tom Kadamus credits much of this year’s success to senior co-captains Joe Mangiameli and Billy Lapinski.
Softball coach Johanne Presser solidified Suffield’s reputation as a post-season powerhouse with a sixth trip to the Class M tourney. Ending at 16-4, the ’Cats entered the tournament as the #12 seed, defeating Ansonia (#21) 8-1 in the first round, before falling to Jonathan Law (#5) in eight innings, 2-1.
Seeded #10 in Class S, boys’ lacrosse wrapped up the regular season at 10-10 before facing tournament elimination in the first round to Bethel (#7), 17-13. On the girls’ pitch, the ’Cats closed at 4-12, their most memorable victory coming over Somers, 19-17, in May.
In the Class M outdoor track tournament held on May 29 in New Britain, the boys’ team placed 13th overall with 20 points, while the girls finished seventh with 37 points. Stand-out performers included: Dan Moroney, 3200M, 4th, 9:42.94 and 1600M, 3rd, 4:24.95; David Biederman, 800M, 3rd, 1:59.03; Peri Stevens, 100M Hurdles, 1st, 15.83 and 300M Hurdles, 5th, 48.36; Brianna Bishop, Lauren Izabel, Shelby McCormick, Paxton McNierney, Hannah Gardocki, Elizabeth Rigby, 4th, 4X8 Relay, 9:56.57; Gabriella Attanasio, Pole Vault, 2nd, 10-06.00; Gabija Pileika, Long Jump, 5th, 14-10.00.
The 20th seed in the girls’ tennis Class M tournament, the Wildcats’ 11-8 season drew to a close with a qualifying round loss to #13 seed Wethersfield, 5-2. The boys’ team, in a rebuilding season, had their strongest performance against Enfield on May 11, a 6-1 win.
Ranked 14th at the Division III boys’ golf tournament, held June 4 in Watertown, the Wildcats finished eighth in a field of 20, with a combined team score of 344.
