The South Windsor High School field hockey team retained a lot of talent with varsity experience from last year. "We only lost four seniors, so we have a lot of returning players who are definitely very talented, so we have the potential to be a very strong team," said coach Jen Bolduc.
"Right now we're one-and-one," she said. "We beat Newington, but we lost to Hall." As of the writing of this article, they prepared to face Northwest Catholic High School on Friday, Sept. 21.
There are plenty of strong players on the team, but in particular, Bolduc points out the two co-captains. They are senior Angie King, who plays center midfield, and Kelly Sacord. Both were leading scorers last year.
One of the rising stars of the team is still an underclassman.
"Our goal-tender is only a sophomore," said assistant coach Michelle Wardwell. Caitlin Gilligan had never played goalie before last year, but ended up playing every game last year. "She's the anchor of our defense," said Wardwell.
Both coaches are optimistic about the season.
"I think we're going to be a contender this year. We definitely have some very strong players," said Bolduc. "So long as we play as a team, we should be successful."
