Bill Beckwith is in his fifth year of coaching the Lyman Memorial High School cross country teams. His girls’ team this year is small, with only seven total participating. “Their overall goal this year is on improving with every race,” said Beckwith. “With every race they’re looking for their personal best.”
Seniors on this year’s girls’ team are: Carley Dolan, Danielle Aguilera, Ali Kaplan and Becky White.
They boys’ team is much larger for 2012, with a total of 21 runners and a large number of seniors. “We came in with a high overall goal this year,” said Beckwith. “We wanted to win the ECC Smalls.” With losses to St. Bernard’s and Montville recently, that goal moved out of reach for the Bulldogs. Now they have their sights set on the class meet on Oct. 27, where they hope to finish within the top four.
“We would like to make the state open,” said Beckwith.
At the Wickham Invitational on Oct. 6, the JV runners were focused on improving their own personal times. Varsity runners were focused on “time rather than place,” said Beckwith. With the Class S also run at Wickham, the runners would use the opportunity to improve their times as much as possible on the course.
The assistant coach for the Lyman Memorial High School cross country team is George Gray.
