Women's national soccer team returning to Rentschler

The gold medal-winning U.S. women's soccer team will be playing an exhibition match vs. Germany, on Oct. 23, at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. Team USA is 3-0-0 at Rentschler Field, last playing Sweden on July 17, 2010, and winning 3-0. All three of those goals came off of the head of striker Abby Wambach. The U.S. beat Norway 1-0 at Rentschler on July 14, 2007, and China by a score of 3-1 on Aug. 1, 2004.
Before the 2007 game, the team also held a clinic for youth players at East Hartford High School.
Officials for U.S. Soccer said that more than 14,000 tickets have already been sold for the match. Kickoff time is set for 7:30 p.m.
The U.S. WNT started the Fan Tribute Tour on Sept. 1 with an 8-0 win against Costa Rica at a sold-out Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. Prior to arriving in East Hartford, the U.S. plays Germany, on Oct. 20, at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill. U.S. Soccer also announced that the team will hold an open-to-the-public training session from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22.
The U.S. Women’s National Team won its third straight gold medal and fourth gold medal overall at the 2012 London Olympics. The USA displayed its first 6-0-0 record at the event, which included a thrilling come-from-behind overtime victory in the semifinals against Canada on Aug. 6 and Carli Lloyd’s two-goal performance to lead the U.S. to a 2-1 win against 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Japan in the gold medal match on Aug. 9.
