With a 3-0 loss to RHAM on Nov. 10, the E.O. Smith volleyball team brought to an end a winning 2012 season. The Panthers entered the game with a 13-5 record, having lost two matches already to RHAM during the regular season. Other losses came against Lyman Memorial, Rocky Hill and Tolland. Aside from those losses, the Panthers had lost only four additional games all season - two against Rocky Hill and two against Tolland. They came into the second round of the Class L tourney after a 3-0 win against Lyman Hall during round one.
RHAM, entering the post-season with an 18-0 record, earned a bye for round one. They’d suffered a bit of a setback in the form of a loss to Bristol Eastern during the CCC championships. But RHAM was back in form for the Class L match, and E.O. Smith spent most of the match struggling to catch up. Final game scores were 25-14, 25-10 and 25-16.
The head coach of the E.O. Smith girls’ volleyball team is Gail Murphy. Seniors on this year’s team are Felicity Emerson, Giulia Bambara, Christine LaCroix, Olivia Worski, Claire Compton, Melissa Higley and Laura Uruena.
