In the heat of a raging feud between their two households, teenagers Romeo and Juliet lose their hearts to each other in a chance meeting. With a price on Romeo’s head, and Juliet suddenly betrothed to another man, the young lovers share a night of forbidden passion before Romeo flees the city. Juliet’s desperate pleas to call off the wedding are denied, and she hatches a secret plan for them to be reunited, with devastating consequences. Connecticut Repertory Theatre will present William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” Nov. 29 – Dec. 9, in the Nafe Katter Theatre.

Artistic Director Vincent J. Cardinal said, “‘Romeo and Juliet’ is, indeed, a story for the ages. Each generation has seen these young lovers from the unique perspectives of their times. It is the layering of time that has influenced our approach to this production. It is, at first blush, a production firmly rooted in 16th century Italy. The costume silhouettes and the scenic elements are those of Verona in the late 1500s, but the details – an iPod, fluorescent lights, an ancient fresco, a song with synthesizer – emerge as messengers from their eras. It is, after all, a story that we tell today, informed fully by our collective history.”

The cast includes Will Haden (Romeo), a second-year MFA actor. Haden was recently seen as Jesus in CRT’s “O Beautiful.” He appeared in “The Winter's Tale” as Florizel.

Hannah Kaplan (Juliet) is a senior BFA actor. Kaplan appeared as Alice Fletcher in CRT’s production of “O Beautiful.” Other CRT credits include: “The Winter’s Tale” (Mopsa), “I'm Connecticut” (Virginia), “Our Town” (Rebecca Gibbs), “Pride and Prejudice” (Mary Bennet), “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot” (Henrietta Iscariot), and the Nutmeg Summer Series production of “Guys and Dolls.”

The cast will feature MFA actors: Thomas Brazzle, Darek Burkowski, Anthony Goes, Will Haden, James Jelkin, Olivia Saccomanno, and Sarah Wintermeyer; as well as BFA actors: Saul Alvarez, Gabriel Aprea, Marisa Desa, Conor Donally, Thomas Dubinski, Kaitlyn Gorman, Will Graziano, Shane Tyler Harris, Darrell Hollens, Michael Improta, Hannah Kaplan, Alejandro Lopez, Ryan Marcone, John Manning, Andrea Pane, Coles Prince, Gina Salvatore and Adam Schneemann.
