Coventry advances in Class S state tourney

Put another mark in the crowded win column for the Coventry High School varsity volleyball team. The Patriots, currently ranked number one in the state (maxpreps.com), defeated the Lyman Memorial Bulldogs on Nov. 12 to advance to the semifinal round of the Class S state championship. Coventry, entering the match with an undefeated record, faced Lyman (17-5) at home. Lyman fought hard, but never managed to take the lead. The final score was 3-0, with game scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-15.
The Patriots were scheduled to take on Terryville (19-1) in the semifinals on Nov. 14. The final match is scheduled for Nov. 16, at 7 p.m., in Glastonbury.
As of press time, Coventry players held a number of state-wide statistics top positions. Senior Marina Rose ranks number one in hits, kills and digs, and number six in aces. Sophomore Emma Rose ranks number one in assists and number five in aces.
