CES holds Grade 1 Chinese New Year Parade

On Feb. 14, Colchester Elementary School held its first Grade 1 Chinese New Year Parade. First-graders have been studying the country of China as their social studies theme. Reading stories about the culture of the country, map-reading, comparing and contrasting the flag, letter and numbers are some of the classroom activities. During music classes, facilitated by music teacher Mrs. Etra, the children sang and listened to music from China, made rattle drums and performed red ribbon Chinese dances. This being the Year of the Snake, in art class, the children designed their own spiral line pattern snake. A few classes during the Integrated Arts periods made a dragon puppet with the assistance of Mrs. Boski. They had fun culminating their studies with a parade through the halls, displaying the artwork they created and the knowledge they had gained to all the students and staff of CES.
