Parks and Rec. names new Day Camp director

Colchester Parks & Recreation has announced that Cari Duigou has accepted the position of director for Colchester Day Camp. Many local residents and campers may already know Duigou, as she has been working with Parks & Recreation since 2000 in various capacities, including assistant director of Kindercamp for over six years, counselor in training leader, and she continues to be a program instructor for the youth and preschool programs.

Duigou is currently a head teacher for Kinder-RHAM-A Preschool and has been for the past eight years. As a result of her dedication and commitment to youth of all ages, Duigou received an award in 2010 in recognition of her positive work with youth from the Connecticut State Youth Services Bureaus. She brings with her many years of experience with Waterford and Glastonbury YMCAs.

Duigou is very excited to return to Day Camp as the director and is looking forward to working with the staff, CITs and campers this summer. “I am excited to lead this dynamic team of enthusiastic, creative and responsible Super Counselors, Specialists and CITs in our goal to enrich the life of every super camper every day this summer,” she said. Along with all the laughing, playing and new friendships, Duigou is proud to continue Colchester Parks and Recreation’s focus on positive character values to enrich the children of the community and the next generation.

The latest issue of the town’s official publication, “Colchester Connection,” highlights some fun outdoor spring events that can be enjoyed by the entire community:

Eighth annual Spring Clean Up: The start of the new season brings with it the town’s eighth annual Spring Clean Up. Perhaps no event throughout the year does more to fulfill the Parks & Recreation Department’s mission of “creating community through people, parks and programs” than this annual day of volunteerism. Recreation Manager Cheryl Hancin encourages all town residents to “come on out and beautify Colchester.”

This program, which has become a local rite of spring, will be held on Saturday, April 6 (rain date April 13), from 9 a.m. to noon at the Town Green. It is open to all ages. Pre-register as a group or an individual to receive a free t-shirt.

Hershey Track and Field Meet: Children between the ages of 9 and 14 who love to run, jump, throw and have fun will have a great time at these games. The meet will be held on Friday, May 17, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Bacon Academy track. The rain date is May 24.

Participants may sign up in this free track and field meet as part of a relay team or as an individual in a variety of events. All participants will need to complete a 2013 Hershey Official Entry Form and pre-registration with the Colchester Parks & Recreation is required. Visit the official Hershey website at for complete details, registration forms and training tips. This event is open to Colchester residents only.

21st annual National Trails Day: Hikers of all ages can enjoy a day on the Air Line Trail as they visit bike stations focusing on bike maintenance, trail and viaduct history, nature interpretation, land conversation, art and crafts, and trail safety along the way.
