On Friday, May 10, Colchester Parks & Recreation will hold a Zumba Dance Party in the Colchester Elementary School café. This event is a fundraiser for Colchester Parks & Recreation’s Day Camp Scholarship fund “camperships.” All proceeds will go directly to assist Colchester families requesting financial assistance to have their children attend Day Camp and/or Kindercamp this summer.

The Zumba Dance Party includes several different Zumba instructors for a dynamic exercise party. Zumba Dance Party will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the CES café. Registration begins at 6 p.m. For your convenience, you can register online at The suggested minimum donation is $10. The maximum is 75 people.

“This is a great way for people to try Zumba; Parks and Recreation offers classes throughout the year,” said Recreation Supervisor Anita Pizzutiello. “We anticipate a tremendous turnout that will really help the campership fund.”

Day Camp Director Cari Duigou and Kindercamp Director Miss Makenna said, “The Day Camp staff and all the instructors have donated their time to help make this a success. We’re ready to party!” Day Camp staff members have also volunteered their time to supervise children either on the playscape or in the gym whose parents are participating in the fundraiser for free.

Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements, which create a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness system. This class format combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body in an aerobic/fitness fashion to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits in a fun way.

Parks & Recreation offers a big thank you to the instructors who make this all possible by donating their time and talents, including: Heather Elsinger, Kristen Cropley, Sharon Brouillard and Torri Buchwald.

A message from Kindercamp director Miss Makenna

Hi, I’m Miss Makenna and I LOVE Camp! This is my first year working at Colchester Day Camp’s Kindercamp and I can’t wait for the first day to meet all our Kindercampers! Miss V, Mr. Kane, Miss Hannah and I have a huge variety of new activities, games, songs, entertainers, special guests and crafts planned for each day of the summer. We’re going to be very busy having fun and making memories that will last a lifetime.

I love working with little kids. I am a student at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, where I am studying to become a special education teacher with a cross endorsement in K-6. I’ve helped in Camp Director Cari Duigou’s preschool classroom for the last four years, including substitute teaching, so I have a ton of experience with preschool and kindergarten aged children. I love games, crafts, being silly and laughing, I know that every day will be a fun adventure!

Each day your Kindercamper will have many opportunities to interact with other Kindercampers in a variety of ways; learning how to take turns, share, listen and of course how to make friends and sing camp songs! The activities we plan are designed purposely to create these valuable opportunities with our gentle guidance. There is nothing like seeing preschool children laughing, smiling, holding hands and making connections, not only with each other, but with their Super Counselors. Kindercamp is the place where friends are made.

I encourage you to register your preschooler for Kindercamp – the benefits are endless! There are many registration options available. Register for one week of Kindercamp for $75/ Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – one hour longer.

There is also a full-day option on M, W, F for incoming Kindergarteners and M, W, F only options are also available.

For your convenience, you can register for all Parks & Recreation programs online at

Payment plans are available.

If you need personal assistance, please call the Parks & Recreation office at 860-537-7297.

I look forward to meeting your Kindercamper on the first day – Tuesday, June 25!
