Summer is in full swing, which means the Rockville Bank Foundation Summer Concert Series returns to the Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk. Concerts take place at the Rockville Bank Park, near L.L. Bean, Thursdays, from 7 to 9 p.m., through Thursday, Aug. 15. The South Windsor Parks and Recreation Department presents the concert series, along with the event sponsors, the Rockville Bank Foundation and Evergreen Walk.
"We're very excited for the concerts," said Nicole Grendziszewski, marketing coordinator for Evergreen Walk. "There's pre-show activities for the kids that are put on by the South Windsor Parks and Recreation Department that are put on at 6 p.m., before the show, and also, their partner, the South Windsor Walk and Wheel Ways, hosts a pre-concert family bike ride before each show, also around 6 o'clock."
Parks and Recreation provides a moonbounce and temporary tattoos for children during the pre-show. Connecticut Mattress offers face-painting at its storefront, and Burton's Grill provides food.
On July 18, the South Windsor Community Band will take the stage. The 50-person band has been a fixture in the community since 1995.
On July 25, the "Jus... Us Band" will perform. The nine-piece funky-soul band is based out of Springfield, Mass., and perform old-school funk, R&B and soul.
"Changes in Latitude" will perform on Aug. 1. The nationally acclaimed band is a premier tribute show to Jimmy Buffett, and they have travelled the country for 10 years offering an authentic Buffett concert experience.
A performance by the "KICK Band" will be held on Aug. 8. The acclaimed "KICK Band" covers a wide range of music, from rock legends "Duran Duran" to ska icons "Reel Big Fish."
The concert series concludes on Aug. 15 with "The Nifty Fifties Band." The five-piece group has brought the retro sounds of 1950s and 1960s dance hits to audiences for 18 years.
