East Hampton recently celebrated its 35th annual Old Home Days “Glorious Celebration,” which included a weekend full of festivities for all ages. Thursday night, July 11, was the kickoff of the celebration with “kids’ night” at the carnival featuring a magician and discounted unlimited ride tickets. Friday night, July 12, started with the 15th annual Glorious Gallop 5K Road Race, in which runners ran through town, crossing the finish line on the carnival grounds.
Saturday, July 13, was the big event when the Old Home Days parade - which this year had a theme of Broadway musicals - made its way through the spectator-filled streets in town. Even with the morning rain and the continued threat of raindrops, the show went on without a hitch. Just as the parade began, however, there was an electrical fire in town so the fire trucks had to respond, but they rejoined parade for the big finish. With more than 100 floats, trucks and decorated vehicles, the parade lasted almost two full hours.
The weekend was closed by the last night of the carnival and a night full of music from local bands with lots of dancing. The weekend is a beloved event for the town of East Hampton and its residents and it never disappoints.
