The Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce held a Business After Hours event on Aug. 8, hosted by Radiology Associates of Hartford at their location at 31 Sycamore St.

Kathy Smith of Radiology Associates of Hartford said her office was glad to host the event, and invited guests to take tours. “We're a group of 20 radiologists that read at St. Francis Hospital, and we have three offices – this one, as well as one in Avon and one in Enfield,” Smith said, adding that the group specializes in women's imaging and procedural imaging.

Smith said she has been impressed by the town’s Chamber of Commerce. “I'm blown away by this Chamber and how organized it is,” she said. “I'm thrilled that everyone could join us here tonight.”

Chairman-elect of the Chamber's Board of Directors David Wood said the Chamber has many events coming up soon. A Chamber trip to China is planned for April of 2014, and an orientation meeting will be held on Aug. 15. The Apple Harvest Festival – clearly the Chamber's biggest event of the year – is approaching fast (Oct. 18-20). Wood said the festival will open on Friday night for the first time, and the hope is to have the largest festival ever, which will require a few extra hands. “We certainly need lots of volunteers,” Wood said. “With the extended hours, we really need more volunteers.”

Guy Labella – assistant director of college relations of Goodwin College – said that Chamber members can now receive a discount on tuition at the college. “Goodwin College will offer a one-third tuition remission, in the form of a scholarship, to any employee employed by a Chamber member, to continue his or her education and pursue a certificate or degree at Goodwin College,” Labella said. “We are very pleased and excited about this benefit.”

Wood said an employee at his office at Gateway Financial Partners is considering taking Goodwin up on that offer. “When I look at the savings for that employee, it makes the Chamber membership a real bargain,” Wood said.

The next Business After Hours event will be Sept. 17 at Shampoo One Salon and Day Spa. For more information, visit www.glastonburychamber.net.
