The 121st annual Wapping Fair is coming to Evergreen Walk Sept. 5-8, with attractions and events that are sure to appeal to all ages.
This year’s fair - sponsored by the South Windsor Jaycees Foundation, Inc. - will include musical entertainment, amusement rides, food, craft exhibits, animal exhibits, Racing Pigs and Ducks, and much more.

No fair would be complete without farm-friendly animals. With more than 10,000 square feet of space at the fair, there will be hundreds of cows, goats, sheep, rabbits, birds and more to admire and pet. Children will be able to hold baby chicks, learn how to milk a goat, and even shear a sheep. Many exhibitors will be showing off their much-loved animals, and judges will be explaining what makes a championship animal. While walking through the tents and observing these animals, there will be interactive, educational games that will teach guests about the area’s agricultural heritage.

This year’s musical entertainment starts off with nationally recognized Kick, which plays on Thursday night. Friday’s music is provided by the rock band, Unprepared. South Windsor resident Paul Tyler and his band will be performing renditions of songs from Garth Brooks to The Beatles.

This year, Tufano Amusements will be bringing 16 rides for everyone’s enjoyment. Amusement rides include a Ferris wheel, moonwalk, merry-go-round, pirate ship, and much more. The cost of the rides varies from two tickets to four tickets. The tickets are on sale for $1 each, 25 for $22. Unlimited ride bracelets will be available on Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. for $23.

There will be fun and educational demonstrations at the Wapping Schoolhouse.  Demonstrations include making candles from scratch, learning secrets of baking, sewing, crocheting, canning and more. A wood carver will also be showing patrons how things were made without the use of power tools. On the grounds, there will be wood carvings created with the use of a chain saw.

For the younger crowd, there will be bingo with special prizes designed for children. Also, “Bubble World” and sand box fun will be available for the pleasure of young guests. Sunday will feature the “Little Mr. and Miss Wapping Farmer” contest. Parents are encouraged to dress up the kids in their best farmer clothes and see who is the cutest. The winners are invited to ride on the South Windsor Jaycees Memorial Day float in 2014.

“Wapping’s Got Talent” is another contest that will take place at this year’s fair. If your child can sing or dance, do magic tricks or entertain the crowd in any other way, go to www.wappingfair.org to view detailed rules and register for this event.
