The Enfield-Fermi-Somers girls' swim team began its season welcoming seven new swimmers. With only two seniors graduating last May, the team has added five new members to the roster this season, according to captains Brenna Kennedy and Erika Bushey.

“A lot of sophomores have joined this year, not just freshmen, which is good because it makes for a well-rounded team,” said Bushey.

The Somers High School senior said she hopes the team will have the opportunity to send more girls to the state finals this year. Last season, she and Rebecca Kaliff were the only two swimmers to qualify for the states, according to Bushey.

Kennedy, a senior at Enrico Fermi High School, said the team is definitely improving as a whole. This year, she wants the team to beat last year's record of two overall wins. Kennedy also said she would like to see the girls on the team achieve more personal bests.

“We have improved quite a bit over the last few years, and we're doing a pretty good job this year,” said coach Janet Fitzsimmons.

Throughout the season, Fitzsimmons said the team will be continuing to work hard, perfect the sport and hopefully drop event times.
