The 10th annual Thompson Community Day was held on Sept. 29 at Riverside Park in North Grosvenordale. Sponsored by Thompson Together and the Thompson Recreation Department, the event brought together area youth groups, non-profit organizations, churches and businesses to celebrate “Unity in Community.”

Norma O’Leary, a force behind the first Thompson Community Day, said it was important to pull the community together. “The town has many attributes that we can and should enjoy,” she said. “And they’re right here under our noses.”

Rocky Navarro was recognized as Thompson’s volunteer of the year for 49 years of service with the Community Fire Department. State Sen. Don Williams, Jr., (D-29), state Rep. Danny Rovero (D-51) and First Selectman Larry Groh, Jr., welcomed the crowds, and the Thompson Middle School and Tourtellotte Memorial High School choruses performed.
