Candidates for the Mansfield and Region 19 Board of Education

Meet your Mansfield Board of Education and Region 19 Board of Education candidates.
Charlie Ausburger - Mansfield BOE – Republican
Ausburger is a long-time resident of Mansfield whose children went through the local school system. He is extremely interested in seeing that all children receive a good education in town. As a small business owner, Ausberger feels he’d be able to offer advice on practical matters regarding local education.
John Fratiello – Mansfield BOE – Republican
Fratiello is a 9-year resident of Mansfield with significant work experience in the field of education. Hespent 9 years as a teacher in grades 2 through 6. He spent 30 years as a principal in elementary schools in the states of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. He has 9 years of experience as the owner/operator of an early learning center. Fratierllo is the founder of a community service organization in Rhode Island, Families for Interracial Adoption. He served five years on the Recreation Commission, and four years on the Board of Education. He has served as a member of building renovation committees, and also as a board member for the Mount Oak Montessori School. If elected to the Mansfield Board of Education, “I will strive to ensure our schools get what they need to provide our children with a high quality of education in a neighborhood setting,” said Fratiello.
Susannah Everett – Mansfield BOE – Democrat
Everett was appointed to fill a vacancy and is running for her first full term on the Board of Education. She is a school and clinical psychologist and worked in area schools for 10 years. Her current work in the school of education focuses on the realities and challenges of implementing evidence-based practices. She is the mother of an eighth-grader at Mansfield Middle School.
Sarah LaCombe – Mansfield BOE – Democrat
The mother of four school-aged children, LaCombe was appointed to the Board of Education earlier this year. She has served as a volunteer in both the Hartford and Mansfield Public Schools as well as two local church nursery schools. She currently works as a special education tutor in the Windham school system and holds a degree in public policy. LaCombe serves on the Board’s personnel committee and is seeking re-election to a full term.
Mark LaPlaca – Mansfield BOE – Democrat
Elected in 2007, LaPlaca has served as Board of Education chair since 2009. He is the Board’s representative to the MansfieldTomorrow Advisory Board and to Mansfield Advocates for Children. He is active in town, volunteering as a youth sports coach, and his two children attend Mansfield schools. LaPlaca serves on both the personnel and finance committees of the Board.
Jim Mark – Region 19 BOE – Democrat
A Mansfield resident for 38 years, Mark has three children, all EO Smith graduates. He currently serves as chair of the Region 19 Board and is seeking his second full term. Mark is also the chair of the Board of Directors for the Covenant Soup Kitchen. He is a managing member of the Law Firm of Lavigne, Mark & Rogers. He attended Holy Cross, UConn and UConn Law.
Casey Cobb – Region 19 BOE – Democrat
Cobb was appointed to the Region 19 Board last year and is seeking his first full term. He brings a research-informed perspective on education as a professor of education policy and leadership. He has two children in the Mansfield school system and has been active in Mansfield youth sports, serving as a volunteer baseball and basketball coach for years.
