The RHAM High School volleyball team finished the regular season undefeated. In the CCC quarterfinal game, the Sachems beat Simsbury with a final score of 3-0. For the semifinal round of the CCC tourney, the Sachems were to face Bristol Eastern, the only team to have defeated them during last year’s season and the eventual winners of the Class L state championship for 2012.
“This will be our second match up against Bristol Eastern [this year],” said head coach Tim Guernsey before the game. “We won earlier in the season 3-2. Bristol Eastern has two very good hitters, one of the best setters in the state,” said Guernsey. “We will need to play very well to beat them.”
The Sachems ended up losing the semifinal round against Bristol Eastern. Bristol Eastern eventually went on to beat Farmington to capture the CCC title.
The Sachems have been assigned a bye for the first round of the Class L state championships, and come to the table with a number-two seed, behind Farmington. Bristol Eastern comes into the tourney with a 16-2 record for the regular season, and a number-six seed. Bristol Eastern’s two losses for the season come at the hands of RHAM and Farmington.
RHAM’s first game for the state tourney is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at home. They will play the winner of a round one match between East Lyme (number 15 seed) and Branford (number 18 seed). The final round for the state tourney is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 16.
