Amy Gallatin will again be performing her Christmas on Minnechaug Mountain concert, which has become an annual holiday tradition in Glastonbury. The show blends the upbeat and familiar with more sentimental favorites and, of course, some holiday treats.
Gallatin will perform alongside her partner, guitarist Roger Williams, and with the Blackstone Valley Bluegrass Band.
"We rotate in new songs every year, and keep some of the old favorites," Gallatin said, adding that at last year's show, "Mr. Santa," sung to the tune of "Mr. Sandman," really brought down the house.
The show will also showcase music from the CD "The Season Of My Heart" by Rick Lang & Friends, which is all original Christmas/seasonal material by New Hampshire songwriter Rick Lang, as well as Bob Dick's solo bluegrass Christmas project "Tidings Of Comfort And Joy" performed by The Blackstone Valley Bluegrass Band (Bob Dick, Dave Dick, Ken Taylor and Dan Nowlan).
Gallatin said many of the songs will be fit into new arrangements, but that the show will adhere to the formula that has made it popular for the last several years, including some sold-out shows. "It's the same, and yet it's different," Gallatin said, adding that a new wrinkle will be a first-time-ever, four-part harmony number sung a capella, which should take full advantage of the church venue's acoustics.
"We're excited about that," she said. "We're also doing a little Christmas rock and roll number. It's actually an old Hank Snow song, but we're rocking out on it to have a little fun with it."
Gallatin said she hopes the upbeat, lively concert will provide a welcome relief from the holiday rush, and "provide simple moments to treasure and a chance to slow down and savor the season."
Christmas on Minnechaug Mountain will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, at the Buckingham Congregational Church, 16 Cricket Lane in Glastonbury. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children under 12, and seating is general admission only. Refreshments will be for sale during intermission. For more information, call 860-633-7992.
