HOBY Leadership Awards
Bacon Academy is proud to announce sophomores Zachary Kranc, Michael Maffuid and Lauren Hickey as the 2014 Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Award winners. The thorough application process involved submitting an essay identifying an individual (real or fictional) who they believe to be an outstanding leader.
Finalists were interviewed and selected by a committee of their peers. Kranc, Maffuid and Hickey will attend the HOBY leadership program for four days in the spring. They will learn powerful leadership skills by interacting with dynamic leadership instructors and like-minded students from across Connecticut.
START Leadership Awards
Bacon Academy is also proud to announce freshmen Thea Sousa and Chase Hathaway as the 2014 START (Students Taking Active Responsibility Today) Conference winners. The thorough application process involved submitting an essay identifying the most rewarding and challenging aspect of being a leader in our school and community.
Finalists were interviewed and selected by a committee of their peers. Sousa and Hathaway will attend the START Youth Leadership Regional Conference with other delegates from nearly 100 New England high schools for three days in the spring at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. At the college, the freshmen students will learn to think positively, enhance their leadership skills, learn about free enterprise, meet other young leaders, and grow to be motivated to accept the challenge of leadership.
