The annual Knights of Columbus Breakfast with Santa at St. Andrew Church has been going on so long that volunteers manning the entry table this year couldn’t pin down a starting point. “It’s been going on a long time,” said K of C member Jim Ciaglo.
The breakfast raises funds for some of the charities that the K of C supports, including the Colchester Food Bank, the St. Andrew food and fuel fund, Eagle Scout projects and CareNet. But equally as important, the event serves as a holiday tradition for local residents, giving them an opportunity to get together before the holidays, and giving children an opportunity to visit with Santa. “We do this actually for the people,” said K of C member Ed Geiger.
The event is held whenever the St. Andrew hall is available, but this was the second year that it took place the Sunday before Christmas. “Last year was excellent,” said Ciaglo, noting that the proximity to the holiday seemed to have brought out the crowds. If this year’s event proved a repeat performance, the men felt the weekend before Christmas might become the norm.
