Plainfield Cub Scout Pack 111 held its Pinewood Derby at the Pachaug Outdoor Club on Feb. 8. Twenty-four Scouts and a sizable sibling class raced homemade cars down a three-lane course in one of the organization's most time-honored traditions.

Cub Master Eric Guertin, who had to make repeated wolf ear signs to quiet the excited crowd, said the purpose of the race was to get together and have fun. “It doesn’t matter who wins,” he said.

Jen Nadeau said the Scouts have given her son Aiden an extended brotherly family. “It’s beautiful,” she said.

All the boys got trophies. Then they left for the Plainfield Fire Department and a tour of the station.
