NORWICH- The Norwich Arts Center presents its annual event The CWA Council Show, an exhibit of art by the Connecticut Women Artists, at the NAC Gallery from Wednesday, Feb. 1 to Saturday, Feb. 25. An Opening Reception for the exhibit will be held Friday, Feb. 3, from 6-9 p.m. This annual staple at the NAC Gallery showcases the uniqueness and diversity of female artists. Gallery hours are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Sparked by a solitary exhibit of 13 women in 1929 at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, the CWA has been supporting and promoting women in the visual arts community for over 80 years. Boasting a membership of over 200 artists, the CWA’s annual exhibit at the NAC Gallery features the work of the organizations’ council members and officers. The work is strong, diverse and challenges the popular perceptions (and misconceptions) associated with female artists. Showcasing an array of style and media from intensely expressive portraits to introspective fields of color, the CWA exhibit testifies to the range of experience and masterful skill of these creative women. For more information about the CWA, visit www.ctwomenartists.org. First Friday Opening Receptions in the NAC Gallery are free to the public with refreshments available. Receptions are a great opportunity to meet the artists. For more information, call the NAC Gallery at 860-887-2789 or visit their website at www.norwicharts.org.
