Winter hike, calendars
EAST GRANBY - A winter hike by the East Granby Land Trust and Lower Farmington River/Salmon Brook Wild & Scenic Study Committee will take place Jan. 26 at 9 a.m., lasting 2 to 3 hours. See changes wrought by the October 2011 snowstorm, CL&P transmission line construction, and EGLT wildlife habitat management. Meet across the street from 140 Kimberly Road. Expect to step over logs, duck under branches and travel through some brushy areas. It will be winter in the woods, so dress in adjustable layers to stay warm and dry, bring water to drink, and be prepared for slippery conditions. If there are more than 10 inches of snow cover, bring X-C skis or snowshoes and we'll take turns breaking trail. The route entails traveling on a DEP access road, old logging track, unmarked trail and some off-trail bushwhacking. In case of rain or unsafe driving conditions the outing will be canceled. For more information contact Ian Clark at firstname.lastname@example.org or 860-653-7417; Joyce Kennedy Raymes at email@example.com or call 860-658-4442, ext. 203. There are still a few 2013 calendars available at the East Granby Public Library from the photo contest. Next year’s calendar theme is "Seasons of East Granby."
